Narrative Description of Project:

WADA II has been developed to directly address some of the most pressing needs in Tanzania, which are Water, Sanitation and Hygiene provision for rural society while at the same time addressing the inherent linkage between water supply and water shades protection and management. This project took place over three years, focused on two critical river basins-the Wami Ruvu river basin and the Ruaha sub-catchment of the Rufiji river basin. Focused directly on water resources protection and management through training, capacity building and strengthening of the government structures. The project goal was to support sustainable water supply, sanitation and hygiene services to improve health through sustainable management of watersheds and water resources quantity and quality. The primary objectives were:

  • Increase sustainable access to improved water supply for poor rural and small town dwellers in target geographic region;
  • Increase sustainable access to improve to sanitation services and hygiene promotion for poor rural and small town dwellers in target geographic region;
  • Develop capacity of local government and NGOs to provide water, sanitation and hygiene services;
  • Increase sustainable management of watersheds and water resources quantity and quality.
